For most positions, a degree land you into the consideration or the rejection pile automatically. But, degrees and education are still an important factor in the hiring process. In most cases, degrees are used to determine your salary as part of the negotiation process more than to determine if you will get the position. In some cases, having a higher level degree can hold you back from getting a position because you will become “too qualified” for an entry level position, while at the same time no employer will hire you because you don’t have any experience to match your degree.
